What to Expect

What to Expect

Welcome to Glen Oaks Hospital! We understand that seeking treatment at an inpatient psychiatric hospital can be a big step towards recovery, but it can also seem intimidating at first. We’re here to provide you with everything you need to feel comfortable and supported during your stay.

At Glen Oaks Hospital, we provide crisis stabilizing acute care services, including everything you need for your stay, such as sleeping accommodations, dining facilities, bathing facilities, recreation spaces and treatment areas. You will receive around-the-clock care from our team of healthcare professionals, including Milieu therapists, Case Managers, Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Activity therapists, Dietitians, Pharmacists and Mental Health Technicians.

During your stay, your care team will assess you and design a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your recovery goals. You will meet daily with care providers, nurses and case managers in both one-on-one and group settings, and you can receive medical attention at any time if you need it.

Length of Stay

The length of your stay at Glen Oaks Hospital depends on your needs and the recommendation of your doctor. It can last a few days to a week or longer.

What You Should and Shouldn’t Bring

We provide you with everything you need for your stay, including toiletries, linens, blankets and other everyday items. You can also bring comfortable clothes without drawstrings, shoes without laces and books. However, we recommend leaving behind items such as cigarettes, lighters and controlled substances, cell phones and electronic devices, outside food and drink, jewelry that is sharp, cords, keys, belts and wallets and anything made of glass.

What Each Day in Inpatient Treatment Is Like

Your day-to-day life at Glen Oaks Hospital will include structured daily schedules designed to help you recover, such as group therapy, meals, treatment, sleep hygiene and outside time. We also provide regularly scheduled supervised visitation on Thursdays, during which you may have up to two visitors at one time. You can also make phone calls from the unit throughout the day.

At Glen Oaks Hospital, we believe that inpatient psychiatric care allows patients to rest in a way they couldn’t at home, teaches new coping skills and helps them get better. We’re here to support you every step of the way towards recovery.
